L. Cole Atkins
Cole is the Head Geologist and Environmental Supervisor for Wake Stone Corporation. In this role, he is responsible for acquiring all environmental permits and assisting Superintendents at each quarry with environmental compliance. Cole also manages Wake Stone’s exploratory efforts aimed at discovering new quarry opportunities.
With no prior mining experience, Cole joined the Wake Stone team in 2005 after several years working as an IT Process Manager for a large law firm. His ability to learn and apply new skills to solve problems has allowed Cole to assist in a number of areas, including mine planning, stormwater management, air pollution dispersion modeling and more.
Cole graduated from Washington and Lee University in 1997 with a Bachelor’s degree in Geology. He has been an industry leader on the North Carolina Aggregates Association’s Environmental Committee, and he has continued the company’s educational outreach efforts with local schools and universities.
